Psalm 21

Thanksgiving for Victory

This is a happy celebration psalm! The king rejoices because God helped him win and gave him everything he prayed for. It reminds us that God's strength is the greatest power in the universe.

  1. 1O LORD, the king rejoices in Your strength. How great is his joy in Your salvation!
  2. 2You have granted him his heart's desire and have not withheld the request of his lips.
  3. 3You welcomed him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.
  4. 4He asked You for life, and You gave it to him— length of days, forever and ever.
  5. 5Through Your salvation great is his glory; You have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.
  6. 6You have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of Your presence.
  7. 7For the king trusts in the LORD; through the loving devotion of the Most High he will not be shaken.
  8. 8Your hand will reach all Your enemies; Your right hand will seize Your foes.
  9. 9At the time of Your appearing You will make them like a fiery furnace. In His wrath the LORD will swallow them up, and fire will devour them.
  10. 10You will wipe out their descendants from the earth and their offspring from among the sons of men.
  11. 11Although they intended evil against You and devised a scheme, they will not succeed.
  12. 12For You will make them turn their backs when You aim Your bow at their faces.
  13. 13Be exalted in Your strength, O LORD; we will sing and praise Your might.

What it means

When God answers our prayers and gives us victory, we shouldn't forget to come back and say thank you. He gives good gifts — sometimes even more than we asked for. His strength is worth singing about.

A little prayer

Lord, thank You for answering my prayers and for all Your good gifts. You are strong and mighty! I will sing and praise You for everything You've done. Be exalted today. Amen.
