The Necessity of God in Our Lives
Imagine trying to grow a flower with no sunlight. You could water it, sing to it, give it the best soil, and it would still slowly fade without the sun. We're a little like that flower. We need God the way a plant needs light.
God is not just useful in emergencies. He is not a rescue service we call only when things go wrong. The Psalms show us people who walked with God on ordinary days: singing to Him while they worked, talking to Him in the night, thanking Him for meals and friendships and sunrises.
When we make space for God in the small moments (a quiet prayer in the morning, a thank-you whispered at dinner, a thought turned toward Him before sleep), something shifts. Worry has less room. Gratitude grows. We find a steady place to stand even when the ground around us shakes.
The psalmist knew it well: God is our refuge and strength. Not just a helper, but a home.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.”
