Faith Cometh by Hearing
There is an old verse in Romans that says faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Long before that was written, the Psalms said the same thing in poetry: God's words are sweeter than honey, more precious than gold, a light for every step.
Faith does not usually arrive in a single great flash. Most of the time it grows the way a child grows — slowly, steadily, nourished by what it takes in. Every time we hear a psalm read aloud, every time a story of God's faithfulness is told, every time a verse is spoken over a sleeping child — faith is being fed.
That is why we sing. That is why we read aloud. That is why grandparents tell stories of answered prayers and teachers write Scripture on boards. Words heard and re-heard make grooves in the heart that eventually become belief.
Read a psalm out loud today — even a short one. Let the words sit in the room. Faith is listening.
“The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making wise the simple.”
