Psalm 36

God's Steadfast Love

Wicked people don't care about God, but God's love reaches higher than the sky! His goodness is like a mighty mountain and His faithfulness is as deep as the ocean. The most wonderful thing in the world is being close to God.

  1. 1An oracle speaks to the wicked man within his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes.
  2. 2For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his iniquity.
  3. 3The words of his mouth are evil and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good.
  4. 4He plots evil on his bed; he sets himself on a path that is not good; he does not reject what is wrong.
  5. 5Your loving devotion, O LORD, reaches to the heavens; Your faithfulness stretches to the skies.
  6. 6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments are like the deepest sea. O LORD, You preserve man and beast.
  7. 7How priceless is Your loving devotion, O God! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
  8. 8They feast on the abundance of Your house; You let them drink from the river of Your delights.
  9. 9For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.
  10. 10Continue Your loving devotion to those who know You, Your righteousness to the upright in heart.
  11. 11May the foot of the proud not overtake me, and the hand of the wicked not drive me away.
  12. 12See how the evildoers have fallen! They are thrust down and cannot rise.

What it means

God's love is higher than the sky and deeper than the ocean. We can hide safely in the shadow of His wings, because He is the source of life itself — and in His light, we can see.

A little prayer

Lord, Your love reaches higher than the sky! I hide in the shadow of Your wings. You are the fountain of life — in Your light, I can see. Amen.
