Psalm 3

A Morning Prayer

David wrote this when people were chasing him and he felt scared. But even with enemies all around, he trusted that God was a shield protecting his head. He was able to go to sleep peacefully because he knew God was watching over him.

  1. 1LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!
  2. 2Many say about me, "There is no help for him in God."
  3. 3But You, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head.
  4. 4I cry out to the LORD, and He answers me from His holy mountain.
  5. 5I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
  6. 6I will not fear the tens of thousands who oppose me on every side.
  7. 7Rise up, O LORD! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
  8. 8From the LORD comes deliverance. May Your blessing be on Your people.

What it means

Even when it feels like many people are against us, God surrounds us like a shield. He is the One who lifts our heads when we feel ashamed or afraid. We can sleep in peace because He is watching.

A little prayer

Lord, when I feel surrounded by trouble, remind me that You are my shield. You lift my head when I feel low. Help me to trust You and sleep peacefully, knowing You are near. Amen.
