Turk and his girlfriend are telling the Bible story of Job to children all over the world, just like a parent reading to their kids at bedtime. Get cozy and listen along.

A good man in the land of Uz

Far away in a land called Uz, there lived a man named Job. He was rich, with huge flocks of sheep and camels, a big family of seven sons and three daughters, and more than enough of everything. But what mattered most about Job wasn't his wealth. It was his heart.

This man was blameless and upright, fearing God and shunning evil.
Job 1:1 (BSB)

Job loved God, and he tried every single day to live in a way that honored Him. He was, in every way that mattered, a truly good man.

Everything is taken away

Then, in what felt like a single terrible day, everything Job had was taken from him: his animals, his servants, and, most painfully of all, every one of his ten children. Job was heartbroken. He tore his robe in grief and fell to the ground. But even in his deepest sorrow, he said something remarkable.

Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. May the name of the LORD be praised.
Job 1:21 (BSB)

Not long after, Job's health was taken too, and he sat covered in painful sores, grieving everything he had lost.

Three friends and a lot of questions

Three friends came to sit with Job. At first they just sat beside him in silence, which was kind. But then they started talking, and talking, telling Job that he must have secretly done something wrong to deserve so much suffering.

Job didn't believe that was true, and he said so. He was confused and hurting, and he asked God hard, honest questions: why would a good God let this happen to him? Job never stopped believing in God. He just wanted to understand.

God answers from the storm

After a long time, God finally answered Job, not with a neat explanation, but out of a great whirlwind. God asked Job question after question about the wonders of creation: who laid the foundations of the earth, who set the boundaries of the sea, who gives the wild animals their strength.

Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.
Job 38:4 (BSB)

Job realized that even though he didn't understand everything that had happened to him, God was so much bigger than his questions, and God was still trustworthy.

I know that You can do all things, and no plan of Yours can be thwarted.
Job 42:2 (BSB)

In the end, God blessed Job again, with a new family and even more than he had before. But the real treasure of Job's story isn't what he got back. It's that he kept trusting God, even in the middle of his hardest, saddest days.
