The Five Senses
Sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch — your body's own toolkit.
Five ways to explore the world
Your body has five senses that help you explore and understand everything around you: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Each sense uses a different part of your body and tells your brain something different about the world.
Which body part, which sense
You see with your eyes, hear with your ears, smell with your nose, taste with your tongue, and touch with your skin. Your brain takes in information from all five at once, which is how you can watch a movie, hear the music, and eat popcorn all at the same time!
Your senses keep you safe
Senses aren't just for fun, they help keep you safe too. Smelling smoke can warn you about a fire, hearing a car horn can help you stay out of the street, and feeling something too hot makes you pull your hand back before you get hurt.
