Counting to 100
Counting one by one, then in groups, all the way to 100.
Counting one by one
Numbers have an order, and that order never changes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and on and on. Once you know how to count to 10, counting to 100 is really just counting to 10 ten times! After 29 comes 30, after 39 comes 40, and the pattern keeps going all the way up to 100.
Counting by groups
Counting one at a time works, but it's slow for big piles of things. Skip counting is faster: counting by 2s (2, 4, 6, 8...), by 5s (5, 10, 15, 20...), or by 10s (10, 20, 30, 40...) lets you count a big group in a hurry. Try counting a jar of buttons by putting them into little piles of 10 first!
Numbers all around you
Numbers aren't just in math books. You count when you set the table, when you check how many days until your birthday, and when you count your steps up the stairs. The more you practice counting in everyday life, the easier bigger numbers feel.
