Having a loving father who is present in your life, who cares for you, protects, and provides for you truly is a gift from God. We should do our best to show our love and appreciation for our dads every day, but on Father’s Day, we should do our best to make them feel loved. Sharing these LDS Father’s Day talks is a great way to honor the fathers in your life. Our church leaders are so full of wisdom and inspiration, and these talks are proof of that!

Fathers By D. Todd Christofferson

“I focus today on the good that men can do in the highest of masculine roles—husband and father.”

There’s nothing more worthy of praise, admiration, and celebration than being a good husband and father. Your career, your hobbies, your money, and worldly possessions are nothing compared to the gift of having a family and being the best father you can to them.

“Surely the greatest of those things [required of fathers] will be to have done all they could for the happiness and spiritual safety of the children they are to nurture.”

A father’s greatest accomplishment in his life will have been to be a good father in every aspect. This means protecting, providing, and, just as important – caring for their spiritual well-being.

“May we heed the voice of the prophets, who, from the beginning of time, have warned us about the importance of fathers in the home.”

There’s a reason prophets have always been so insistent on the importance of the family unit. Every family member has a role that helps the family function the best that it can. The father in the family plays an essential role, and any family left without a father will suffer their loss.

“Fathers and sons can play a critical role in helping each other become the best that they can be.”

A son in a father’s life is just as influential as the father is in the son’s. Parents are meant to teach and guide their children through life, but parents often end up learning many lessons from their children as well.

“I invite all who hear me today to read the Book of Mormon and to apply the promise it contains. Those who do will know that the book is true.”

There is a reason every prophet since the restoration of the church has strongly encouraged us to read the Book of Mormon, and keep reading it forever. It provides us with answers, blessings, revelation, and so much more.

“True religion should not originate from what pleases men or the traditions of ancestors, but rather from what pleases God, our Eternal Father.”

As humans, it can be easy to be tempted to alter religion or misinterpret God’s written word. But if we stay true to God’s word, we will experience more eternal joy than we could ever get from doing what pleases men.

“It should have great meaning that of all the titles of respect and honor and admiration that could be given him, that God himself, he who is the highest of all, chose to be addressed simply as ‘Father.’”

Knowing that God asks us to call Him “Father” just goes to show the significance behind the title and position. A father’s duty should never be taken lightly, and it should imitate the role of our Father in Heaven.

“Your responsibility as a father and a husband transcends any other interest in life.”

The most important work you will ever do is within the walls of your home. The future of the world rests in each parent’s hands as they raise and teach the next generation to be followers of God and Jesus Christ.

“But a father’s calling is eternal, and its importance transcends time. It is a calling for both time and eternity.”

It can be easy to get caught up in the worldly things that bring us pleasure, but being a father is an eternal calling – it doesn’t end after this life. Its importance surpasses any other job, hobby, or interest.

“May you be blessed in your efforts to be righteous husbands and fathers, I pray as I bear solemn witness of the truthfulness of that which has been spoken this evening and do so in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.”

If a man strives to be a righteous husband and father, God will bless him incredibly and guide him on his journey through marriage and fatherhood.

“Husbands and fathers, could we again remind you of your role and your responsibility?”

Being a husband and a father should never be taken lightly. They play such an important role in their family’s lives. They truly are a blessing to the rest of their family.

“May we fathers teach our sons as the exemplary Book of Mormon fathers taught their sons. And may our sons, like Nephi, listen and obey, knowing that because of those teachings, they too were born of goodly parents.”

Fathers must be the example to their sons of the man they should strive to become. And that man should listen to and obey God so they may receive all of the blessings they can.

“In the home, the father has a primary obligation to stay close to family members and administer to their needs.”

A father is a provider. He is responsible for providing for the family’s needs. This includes their physical needs, as well as their emotional needs and spiritual needs.
