VERSE:
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him,…” (GENESIS 32:31 KJV).
EXPLANATION:
I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today, let us meditate on the verse, “And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him,…” (Genesis 32:31).
Jacob may have experienced thousands of sunrises in his life. But this sunrise is a special, blessed sunrise. A new name “Israel” arose for him as Jacob.
Jacob decided to spend a night alone with the Lord by the river. On the one hand, his fear of his brother faded away. On the other hand, the responsibility to protect the wife and children pressed on the soul. Memories of the future tormented him.
He decided to pray with the Lord that night, and after taking his wife and children to the river, he waited alone in God’s presence. The Lord met him there. That encounter brought great light into his life. Raised great hopes. “As he passed by Peniel, the sun rose,” says the scripture.
You may be walking down many paths of darkness. Fear of what the future will hold and how we will overcome the darkness of temptation may take hold. Learn to struggle and pray like Jacob at the Lord’s feet when dark clouds surround you and darkness without light grips your life. The Lord will surely change all the dominions of darkness and cause the sun to rise in you. The Lord says, “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;…” (Malachi 4:2).
If God’s light is to shine upon you, the darkness of sin must be removed from you. Man, created in the image of light by God who was light in the beginning, sinned and inherited darkness in the image of the devil. That is why he had to pass into the darkness of curse, losing his health and comfort.
Jesus, the Sun of Righteousness, rose on this earth to give back to man the light he had lost and to restore his well-being. The scriptures say, “And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.” (2 Samuel 23:4).
One day the sun rose in Simeon’s life. That day was the day he saw Jesus face to face. Carrying Jesus in his arms and enjoying the sunlight, he said, “For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; (Luke 2:30,31).
Beloved, behold, the Lord wants the sun of righteousness to shine upon you. As the sun rose in Jacob’s life, so will the sun rise in your life.
PRAYER:
Lord of love! I have come before you with my faults. I wandered around looking for answers in every direction, not knowing that you could light up my life. But now I know that everything is in vain. You are the light of this world. I invite you, the light, into my life. Lord, I want your shining life. Let the darkness flee in the mighty name of Jesus. Now come to me. Fill me with your light. You are indeed the light of this world. Help me carry your light to others. Help me manifest You wherever I go. Help me make a difference in every place. Let Your light shine in every action, word and deed of my life. Glory be to your name. Good Father in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
